Nola Masquerade to administer Project AIM on behalf of the LA Office of Public Health
New Orleans, Louisiana July 1, 201
Nola Masquerade, a community partner has been chosen as the team to administer Project AIM on behalf of the LA Office of Public Health. Project AIM is a group youth development intervention that was designed to reduce HIV risk behaviors and to imagine a positive future and discuss how current risk behaviors can be a barrier to successful adulthood. Nola has been chosen to work along with LAOPH and Dr. Leslie Clark to create a MSM version of Project AIM and to invent new curriculum which will provide materials geared exclusively to the target community. The target population is an audience of MSM’s ages 15 to 19 and will consist of 12 sessions which will address challenges and obstructions that youth feel are prohibiting them from achieving a positive future self. The grant award will consist of a minimum of 75 youth participants every year and will continue for a three year period beginning July 2011 and ending July 2014. As a community partner Nola Masquerade was chosen to administer this grant based upon their community efforts in promoting safe sexual behaviors, healthy living and from previous health fairs and multiple community outreach events.

The mission of Nola Masquerade is to unify the African American lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) populace while promoting awareness of the challenges which face the community. In a collaborative effort, this organization pledges to Educate, Communicate and Celebrate the areas of healthy living and prevention, family and youth education as well as providing supportive services and community outreach. Nola Masquerade's annual celebration commonly known as The Masquerade was appropriately named as its efforts are to unmask the myths assigned to the LGBT community by individuals who do not understand nor appreciate the LGBT society.
