Secretary Announces Award of Grants to Promote DC Voting Rights

Today, the Secretary of the District of Columbia announced that two grants will be awarded to promote voting rights and statehood for the District of Columbia during Fiscal Year 2010.

* DC Vote will be awarded a grant of $140,000, and * The International Federation of Black Prides will be awarded a grant of $10,000.

In awarding the grant, the secretary stated ''The residents of the District of Columbia have waited long enough for full democracy. As we celebrate the 148th anniversary of DC Emancipation Day this year, I look forward to the District's political emancipation.''
